2008 Filipino Fiesta

CONGRATULATION to all those who were actively involved in the Annual Filipino Fiesta & Parade. Despite encountering some difficulties at the planning stage, the fiesta turned out to be very successful. MY BEST SALUTE to Marilyn Jacobe, Claire Bello, JR Aquino and Christine Fe Benito. It was really awesome to see these people work at their best to ensure the fiesta will be a sure success. Although I had few disappointments,I am still greatly satisfied with the outcome of the fiesta. I hope the event INSPIRED new members to be more actively involve in the Filipino community. We proved once again that HFJCC is an effective leadership training organization.

TO ALL VOLUNTEERS, Maraming Salamat for your support.

Food booths

The food servers are rigging their tents to extend it, all them have done this.  On the day of the fiesta, sometime during lunch, a gust of wind blew apart one of the rigging.  As soon as we found out, we rushed to aide the booth to secure the rigged tent, extra bad luck and the safety of the people would have been compromised.  As we helped that vendor, Darwin quipped "This is why we don't recommend putting this up".

The past dimensions of the food booths are inadequate.  It needs to be extended front to back, perhaps doubled.  This is the length that they haved extended it and is consistent from food booth to food booth.  This is not only a safety concern but also a matter of better serving them.

This issue should be addressed.  First the problem should be assessed, then a decision made.  Extending  the tents present a whole new set of complications.  First of whom is cost, the obvious solution is to pass it on to the vendor.  We are not in the business on gazumping so the extra charge should be sensible and kept at a modest rate as low as possible.

How can we improve it for next year?

What were the "few disappointments" you spoke of? More importantly, what can we do to lessen the chances of it happening again next year?

Suggestions, anyone?
